Digital Printing and Offset Printing
Digital Printing vs Offset Printing

Digital Printing
Digital printing hasn’t been around as long as offset. Our printer uses toner (looks like powder) instead of your regular household printer ink. The toner is transferred to a plastic sheet and then the image gets transferred onto paper.
Afterwards, heat is used along with fuse oil to set the toner permanently onto the paper. Digital machines reduce set-up time, waste, and cost.

Offset printing
If you were to compare our digital prints to offset, there wouldn’t be too much of a difference since the quality is good on digital. Offset has been around since the 1800s and works by transferring ink onto a plate and this in turn goes onto a rubber sheet which will then be rolled onto paper.
Offset is generally regarded as higher quality printing. Larger sheets are available for printing on offset and the process is quicker. Offset is a better option for larger amounts and specialty effects (like Spot UV (shiny areas on a silk card), plastic and foil).
When Digital Printing Makes More Sense
Digital printing is fast. Think of it as the professional version of your office printer, but much sharper and far more capable. We load your file, print, and your job is ready without any major setup.
Offset printing is ideal for large quantities. It takes time to set up because we create metal plates, but once the press runs, it produces thousands of high-quality prints at a lower cost per piece.
We do both here at Chile Media. That means we point you toward the method that genuinely works best for your project.
You need fewer than 250 pieces
You’re on a tight deadline
Each item needs personalization like names, barcodes, or variable data
You want to avoid setup fees
You’re testing a new idea or printing a small batch
Digital printing gives you flexibility and speed. If you’re not printing thousands and you need your order quickly, this is the best choice.
When Offset Printing Is the Better Fit
Offset printing shines when the project calls for volume or a specialized finish.
We recommend offset when:
- You’re printing 500 pieces or more
- Color consistency must be exact
- Your brand uses Pantone colors
- You need luxury finishes like foil, soft-touch, or spot gloss
- You want to print on specialty paper
Offset is ideal for:
- Brochures for trade shows or direct mail
- Business cards for entire teams
- Matching envelopes and letterhead
- Booklets, catalogs, and calendars
Offset takes longer to set up, but once running, it’s efficient, consistent, and produces premium results.
A stat worth sharing
